There has been no let up in the number of persons in Kerala getting afflicted with Covid-19 as 1,983 new patients were diagnosed with the pandemic on Friday, said a release issued by the office of the minister of health KK Shylaja. Out of the 1,983 new patients, 1,777 persons contracted Covid-19 through local transmission,

The department of health confirmed that 12 persons succumbed to covid-19 in the State during the last 24 hours. Thiruvananthapuram topped the table of Covid-19 patients with 429 new persons joining the band on Friday. Out of 429 new patients in Thiruvananthapuram, 411 contracted the pandemic through local transmission, said the release.

Across the State, 109 persons were victims of community transmission because they failed to pinpoint the source of affliction. The day saw the hospitalisation of 2,128 patients and testing of 35,825 samples.

True to what Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had pointed out before he went on self-quarantine, a sense of complacency has set in all over the State with regard to the management of Covid-19 patients.

As the number of patients increased, Government hospitals are struggling to take care of the needs of those admitted to the Covid wards. During the initial days of the pandemic, Kottayam Medical College Hospital used to provide sumptuous breakfast, lunch and dinner to the patients. This included iddli, boiled eggs, chicken curry, fruits, chappathi and fruit juice. But for the last couple of days the hospital management is struggling to provide at least two idlis per patient for the breakfast.
