As many as 1,382 candidates have filed their nominations for the Block Development Council polls, beginning October 24, in Jammu & Kashmir.
Chief Electoral Officer, Shailendra Kumar said, “a total number of 1382 candidates have filed their nomination papers in 22 districts of the State for 310 BDCs for which the elections will be held on October 24”.
He said elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls.
Out of 1382 candidates, 751 filed nomination papers in Jammu, 515 in Kashmir and 116 in Ladakh.
According to official sources , “the frontier district of Kupwara in North Kashmir topped the list with maximum number of candidates coming forward to contest the BDC polls.
A total number of 131 candidates filed their nomination papers in Kupwara followed by Baramulla where poll authorities received 110 nominations”.
In Jammu division, the highest number of nominations were received in Jammu district where 105 candidates are in the fray.
In Ladakh division too, Kargil district outnumbered Leh in terms on total nominations. Official sources said, 68 candidates joined the electoral contest in Kargil district, while 48 candidates filed their papers in Leh.
Meanwhile, a day after the State Unit of the congress party decided to boycott the BDC polls, the State BJP Chief, Ravinder Raina, Thursday alleged that Congress party is carrying forward nothing but the agenda of Pakistan through its BDC poll boycott call.
Raina, also said that registration of Congress party be cancelled with immediate effect for its repeated acts to weaken the institutions of democracy.
Ravinder Raina, alleged that Congress party does everything here, which is required as per the destructive foreign policy of rogue state of Pakistan.
He said that Pakistan wants the election to be boycotted here, which is being implemented by Congress party along with NC and PDP in India.
He said that the Congress party has carried forward the agenda put forth by Hurriyat, separatists, and the enemies of the Nation, through its actions and hence proved itself to be a traitor by bringing bad name to the Nation.
