Dr NK Arora, Chairman of Covid-19 Working Group of NTAGI, on Tuesday said that Molnupiravir, an anti-viral Covid-19 pill, should not be given to people of the reproductive age.
He added that the drug can be given to senior citizens, particularly those with comorbidities, to reduce the chance of hospitalisation and severe illness.
He also stated that irrational use of the pill can be dangerous.
Dr Balram Bhargava, ICMR Chief has already expressed his reservation about the drug efficacy saying that World Health Organisation and the U.K. have not included it for treatment. Bhargava said last week that Covid antiviral drug Molnupiravir has major safety concerns and has not been included in the national protocol for treatment of coronavirus.
