The Uttar Pradesh Government stressed that the Crime Branch of Criminal Investigation Department (CB CID) no longer remained a dumping ground of investigations and that the credibility of the agency had increased due to speedy and quality disposal of important probes.
The Government further claimed that attempts were further being made to develop the probe agency like Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by increasing the level of credibility and quality of CB-CID.
These claims were made by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi soon after he visited the CB-CID headquarters and reviewed ongoing investigations in Lucknow on Wednesday morning.
Awasthi said that all out efforts were being made to make the agency more resourceful and increase its level of credibility and quality of probe on instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Reviewing probes being conducted in all nine sectors of the CB-CID, the additional chief secretary directed officers concerned to ensure maximum punishment to persons indicted in the charge-sheets.
He also enquired about pending cases under the sanction of prosecution and directed their speedy disposal.
Awasthi also directed that inspectors probing cases along with supervisory officers like superintendents of police should visit the spot to ensure quality investigation.
He also asked the officers to make all out efforts so that maximum punishment could be meted out to the culprits through effective prosecution in ongoing cases in courts.
Appreciating the achievements of the CB-CID officials, the additional chief secretary directed the brass to make efforts to ensure quality analysis and also for effective supervision.
Director-General (CB-CID) Gopal Lal Meena informed the additional chief secretary that following the State Government's policy of zero tolerance towards crimes, old cases pending in the agency were cleared by running a systematic campaign.
"As a result, while hundreds of probes were pending in all nine sectors of the CB-CID earlier, their number has come down to only 106 due to dedicated efforts made by officials of all the sectors. Our focus is to complete probes into cases as soon as possible with utmost transparency and ensure that the culprits get maximum sentences," the DG (CB-CID) said.
Meena also said that sometimes the officials found it difficult to collect forensic evidence as the cases were handed to the agency after a long time of occurrence of the incident, but even then, on the basis of available evidence and records etc., officers ensured quality probes with absolute transparency.
On this occasion, ADG Dawa Sherpa and LV Antony Dev Kumar posted at CB-CID headquarters and other senior police officers were present.
