Controversy erupted after official Class X test papers published by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) referred to “Azad Kashmir” in one of the questions in the History subject.
A map-pointing question in model history test papers for Class X Board exams provided Azad Kashmir as an option triggering the controversy.
“We have heard that the term used by the State of Pakistan in reference to the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir has been used in a test paper published by the government controlled agency which is utterly shameful … it should have been referred to as Pakistan Occupied Kashmir … we will raise the issue,” said a BJP leader.
WBBSE Chairman Ramanuj Gangopadhyay came out with a clarification saying an inquiry into the incident had been ordered and appropriateaction would be taken if any mistake was found. “We have ordered an inquiry to find out whether it is an editing or writing mistake … only after that rectification will be done or clarification would be issued… everything will be done as per prescribed official procedure,” he said.
