The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asserted on Monday that the Modi Government has actively worked towards reversing the suppression of Indian culture and heritage that was prevalent during the Congress dispensation. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, who is the new Law Minister and a junior Minister in the Culture Ministry, highlighted the Government’s efforts towards cultural rejuvenation during a Press conference.
Meghwal said it was “no coincidence that a grand Ram temple is being constructed while the current Government is in power.” He also mentioned notable initiatives such as the development of the Kashi-Vishwanath corridor and the Mahakal corridor in Ujjain, the inauguration of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor, and the celebration of the 550th and 350th birth anniversaries of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh.
He further highlighted the retrieval of 231 stolen idols from various countries since 2014, contrasting it with the retrieval of only 13 idols between Independence and the BJP government assuming power nine years ago. Meghwal attributed this to the speed and scale of the government’s work.
Accusing previous Congress Governments of neglecting icons like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and BR Ambedkar, Meghwal commended the Modi Government for honoring them. He noted the construction of the Statue of Unity, commemorating India’s first Home Minister, as well as the development of the ‘panch-teerth’ associated with the architect of the Indian Constitution.
