Saradha chit fund scam is gradually turning into an all party scam. As the CBI investigation moves ahead, names of leaders of various parties are being exposed in one or the other form. leaders of TMC, BJD, Congress and even CPM are allegedly said to be involved in this scam. Except the BJP, leaders of almost all parties have been exposed in this case.
TMC leaders were the first to be put in the dock. The CBI has investigated six TMC MPs, and Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh had directly named Mamata Banerjee, claiming that the party had benefitted from the scam.
As far as the ruling party of Orissa, BJD, is concerned, many of its leaders have been interrogated. CPM was vocal against the scam but interestingly has investigated an official of State secretariat of the party and former MlA Rabin Deb. The State president of Congress Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary is going to start a movement against the State Government on the issue. The CBI has investigated Nalini Chidambaram, wife of Congress senior leader P Chidambaram. It also quizzed veteran leader of Congress and MP from Malda, Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury.
BJP TO STAY AWAY FROM lOVE JIHAD
In Uttar Pradesh, the issue of love Jihad didn’t prove beneficial for the BJP, so it has decided to stay away from it. Sources say BJP leaders will not raise this issue now. In fact, many leaders are apprehensive that the party will have to pay the price if such social issues are turned into political issues. That is the reason why party’s firebrand leader Uma Bharti said love Jihad is a social issue. She has not said anything more than this but it is being understood that the BJP will leave this issue for social and cultural organisations of the party.
In UP, BJP leaders have been instructed to leave the issue to the Bajrang Dal. The issue was raised by the ABVP in lucknow; it has decided that the issue will be considered a question of prestige and security of women. So, to highlight the issue, the ABVP will form a human chain on October 7. Other organisations of the RSS have also been told to keep an eye on such incidents without raising a hue and cry.
lIMITED ROlE OF MINISTERS
The role of Central ministers in appointments for National Commissions, committees and corporations has become limited. As soon as the Narendra Modi Government took charge, it was said that all appointments would be made through the PMO. This is what is being done now. Appointment of the Chairman of NCW is the most recent example. Around a month ago, lalitha Kumaramangalam was appointed the party spokesperson by Amit Shah, but now she is the chairperson of NCW.
It is said that no advice was sought from Minister for Women and Child Development Menaka Gandhi, who wanted to appoint an apolitical legal luminary on the post.
Before this, it was said that the PMO had ignored the recommendations of the MHA and appointed the interlocutor for Naga talks on its own. The ministry had recommended the name of Ajit lal, but the PMO finalised the name of RN Ravi. Also, Ram Vilas Paswan apparently wanted to appoint one of his close aides as the chairman of FCI, but he was not allowed to do so. The MHA has to reconstitute the NDMA but it is still in limbo, and the MEA is not taking any decision on ICCR.
NO DISCUSSION ON ANTONY REPORT
It seems that the reform process in the Congress has been put aside. It is being said that the reasons for defeat in lok Sabha Elections, as stated in the report of the Antony committee, will not be discussed in near future. Earlier, it was being said that the report was meant only for the Congress president. It was also said that Sonia Gandhi had already seen it and would make changes in the party accordingly. It is also true that in the meeting of CWC held after the lok Sabha results, she had been authorised to take all necessary steps. But later it was said that the report would be placed before the CWC.
Reliable sources of Congress say veteran leaders don’t want to discuss the issue. The discussion is being deferred on the pretext of elections and it is being argued that Sonia and Rahul have to go for campaigning.
Antony has not raised any question on the leadership of Rahul and has in fact defended him. After the favorable results of by-elections, the Congress is hopeful that it will perform better in the Assembly Elections, putting an end to doubts over Rahul’s leadership. If that happens, the party will start the reform process. Congress sources say there will be no CWC before the Assembly Elections in four States. So, there is no chance of a discussion on the Antony report.
REASONS FOR BJP DEFEAT IN BYPOllS
Hundreds of theories are being discussed for the reason of BJP’s defeat in the by-elections. Probably, all theories have been discussed on the party forum, but BJP leaders don’t agree on any of them. Party sources say that State as well as national leaders believe there was a flaw in selection of candidates and rigorous campaigning wasn’t done. leaders also think that after lok Sabha Elections, voters and workers of BJP were tired, so they didn’t participate enthusiastically. Some leaders say the ruling parties had an upper hand; the State Government used the administration. The BJP leaders argue that generally ruling parties wins by-elections. Though, it is also true that it doesn’t happen in Rajasthan. Interestingly, no leader is ready to accept that there was some mistake at the policy level.
