UN confirms Pakistan’s worst kept secret

A UN Security Council committee's validation of six of the nine addresses provided by India on notorious gangster and terrorist Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar is reaffirming the country's claim that he is very much sheltered by the neighbouring Pakistan. The global body's vindication will help buttressing India's long standing claim and falsify Islamabad's constant counterclaims that it has no knowledge about the whereabouts of the don. It is a great shame on a country which has been purposefully allowing a global terrorist as recorded by the UN, in its territory for decades now.

Pakistan must come up with an answer now not only to India but also to the international community for years of its lies, officially released by various agencies and ministries of the Government time and again on Dawood. But a country which could offer a safe haven to Osama bin laden, the godfather of global terror, just next to one of its Army cantonments, what answer it will put forward to India, forget about the worldIJ On record, Pakistan has been receiving billions of dollars of Congressional grants for being America's partner in the fight against the massive global war on terror since the historic September 11 and at the same time, it was safe keeping Osama bin laden back home, for whom an international hunt was on. So now, Pakistan, refuting the UN's credentials on Dawood or taking time to verify the addresses of the dreaded monster should not come as a surprise to New Delhi at least.

For the last 23 years, the Indian intelligence and security agencies like the Research and Analysis Wing, Intelligence Bureau, Central Bureau of Investigation and National Investigation Agency are skillfully tracking the movements of the don and prevented many of his attempts to create further havocs in the country. However, Islamabad has been equally rejecting the proofs even electricity bills, provided by New Delhi that Dawood is residing in Karachi.

Apart from the above top security agencies, the active support from Delhi and Mumbai police have also been used to stop his illegal activities in India and abroad, identifying his accomplices, properties and travel plans, but without full support from the Pakistan Government, he can never be caught. It would not be advisable for India to conduct a US operation like Operation Neptune Spear which killed Osama Bin laden within Pakistan's territory because it may lead to war. Since last year, even the Enforcement Direcorate has started locating Dawood's global properties in Spain, Morocco, Singapore, Thailand, Cyprus, Turkey, Britain, UAE etc.

This would be appreciated if the UN can pursue these countries to nab his overseas properties within no time. The address proof accepted by the UNSC's special committee concerning Dawood on its Islamic State and al-Qaeda Sanctions list of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo can well be regarded as a great victory of India's persistent diplomatic moves and painstaking efforts made by our security agencies for last more than two decades. India feels that Pakistan must issue arrest warrant for Dawood who is listed as ‘most wanted' in the country. Simultaneously, Interpol must execute the long pending red corner notice against the gangster with immediate effect.
