The Trump convention

Americans have the reasons to support him

Nominating Donald Trump as the presidential candidate for the Republican Party has indicated a stunning victory for a person whose White House ambitions were once openly mocked across the global political spectrum. He paints more of the image of a common man who does never want to hide things from the public and media on many controversial and private affairs of his life. His ‘America First' foreign policy speech is throwing light on the other side of America wherein it can think of rising without the help of the decades old alliances built around the historic North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

Much of the commentary and coverage which out rightly attacks Trump till date for lacking maturity and judgement for entering into the prestigious Oval Office, will now gradually fade. Unlike a Harvard or Wharton-trained elite politician, Trump is opening to the people mostly the dangers America might face in the near future. It is just straight talk and at times accompanied by hard-hitting nativistic overtones. It might so happen that no American presidential candidate may have spoken or addressed to his people so blatantly realistic in the past. So Trump stands out and finally trounces all his contenders right away.

Even ahead of the Republican Convention, Trump has knocked every Republican opponent out of the race for US President and managed to win endorsements from almost all his critics. Apart from his opponents, most notably, the evangelicals who once directly spoke against him and the way he was addressing many sensitive ethical issues, are now awkwardly backing him, signaling an America soon to be under Trump. Till now, most of the poll predictions show deep ideological divide, where people are scared about the opposition party and there is absolutely not much choice for them, except two already declared candidates, almost an established norm under a bi-party system.

Trump has won passionate supporters and vitriolic detractors for his blunt talk, outlining hard proposals for the global hegemonic power, which is losing its dominance and influence in recent days under the empty rhetoric of the current President Barack Obama. So many would prefer a stronger and probably an outspoken incumbent at the White House like Trump than voting for the former first lady Hillary Clinton who could hardly deliver as the Secretary of State in the past.

Indeed, Hillary's urge to voters seeking to continue Obama's policies and programmes, had helped winning her a decisive lead over her opponents in the party election, but obviously finds tough opposition among those disillusioned by what they view as lack of progress and losing of America's global space during his tenure. It seems Trump knows his people much better than Hillary. His approach to real life problems and solutions he is offering would appeal to many more young as well as older generation of Americans who are badly yearning for a stable society.

Without any iota of doubt, it can be gauged that as evangelicals are fast waning cultural influence and losing hold over the majority of the young people, hence lending support to Trump may help regaining their lost space for sure. As he is promising to the Americans that he is the only one who could turn the situation around, so now we all must wait and watch what Trump only termed as: “This is a movement, but we have to go all the way”.
