UK jails Anjem Choudary, warns IS supporters
The conviction of Anjem Choudary, a hate preacher in Britain for the last 20 years, has come late. The British Government should have taken stringent measures against him for spreading massive ideological ingredients of hate and division through his shadow osrganisation Al Muhajiroun which he established in the mid-1980s with the extremist cleric Omar Bakri Muhammad. As he is constantly inspiring young people to join the dreaded Islamic State (the face of global jihad), the most heartening thing found by the Government, his relentless campaign in public for espousing the hard-line sharia’h laws for the UK, should have been checked much earlier. What comes from such soft version (without resorting to arms directly) of terror preaching is that there must be a limit to freedom of expression and it should not be allowed to extend to such level where one can stand for a jihadi outfit like the Islamic State, in a country that has been the victim of terrorism in the past. This shows the laxity of the British intelligence agencies, once known for world-class service, in tracking the activities of Choudary. Simultaneously, it remains a mystery how a person who had the followers like Omar Sharif, a British suicide bomber responsible for attacking Tel Aviv in 2003 and Brusthom Ziamani, one planning to strike people in london streets, has lived at large for so many years without being questioned by the security agencies of Britain.
Was the Government scared to take action as it may backfireIJ Is it the too liberal atmosphere that can leave behind someone to even stand for Islamic StateIJ It is felt that Government was gathering enough evidences for booking him and there, of course, was the angle of hurting a significant Muslim population in the UK who are already facing the onslaughts of the global jihad. It is a fact that the British Government had gathered a lot of eveidence supporting a comprehensive investigation process to nail the Islamist. The British court was surprised to hear that Choudary and his co-defendant Mohammed Rahman asked their supporters to obey Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Islamic State caliph and travel to Syria to support the outfit. His talks appealing to mobilise support for the Islamic State was available in YouTube and that rightly shows how his ideas were represented by the world of belief, meaning Muslims and the world of disbelief, everyone else. To him, these two worlds can never meet and hence they are purely incompatible. He sincerely believes that concepts like liberal democracy, personal freedom and the rule of law mandated by people are all an affront to the will of Allah. There can be no meeting of the minds of this two worlds. Thus he sincerely argued till the date of his conviction, the establishment of the sharia’h law for the whole world — starting from Pakistan, Afghanistan and finally a londonistan by all his brothers. The most significant of his speeches was that one fine day the flag of Islam will fly atop the Downing Street and thus he has become one of the most outspoken advocates of radical Islam in Britain. His constant oath of allegiance to the Islamic State was a turning point for the British police to nab him, and this must serve as a lesson for the country to check in the rising Islamic terror in the country.
