Crush separatist Khaplang's anti-India offensive
The special operations of the Indian Army commandoes against the separatist SS Khaplang faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) on Friday inside Myanmar can be regarded as a good lesson for the notorious outfit. The Indian Army must not allow the group either to sneak into the country or to attack our security forces. The NSCN(K) after walking out of the 14-year old ceasefire pact with the Indian Government March last year, it has once again stepped up its violence against the security forces. Therefore, the Government should not show any complacency towards the outfit as it is no more a part of the ongoing peace process mainly spearheaded by the parent NSCN(IM) group. As the group is known for its brutality and can change fighting tactics in tune with the changing circumstances, the intelligence agencies must track its movements deep inside the jungles of the India-Myanmar border, else it has all the capacities to create havoc in some parts of north-eastern India. Khaplang is ageing and most of his lieutenants are tired of waging unsuccessful wars against the Indian Government for decades now. Hence it is the right time that the Government of India plans out an ‘once and for all’ mission against the Khaplang bandwagon which has been unleashing terror quite often on security forces. It is not a force to be reckoned with today as it was two decades back because most of its resources are dwindling and it is losing support from the Naga people as the majority of them hail the NSCN(IM) as their true representative that is engaged in talk with the Government for a peaceful resolution of the oldest insurgency problem of the country.
Then why the Government is not launching an all out war against the militant groupIJ Or is the Government waiting for Khaplang to surrenderIJ Of course, the Government must move faster and ensure that the resource rich north-eastern States are not left for playing grounds of the insurgents which are lagging behind on the national development index. Khaplang must be pressurised to surrender or else he should be handled with an iron hand within no time. If done so, some other outfits like the anti-talk faction of the United liberation Front of Asom (UlFA), National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Sangbijit (NDFB-S) etc which are still waging war against the Indian Government and killing innocent civilians, will fall in line within no time. As there is a friendly democratic Government in power in Myanmar unlike the past military junta, so the Indian Government must coordinate with the neighbour and nip the last remains of the NSCN, which is mostly operating from that country, in the bud. Today, political willingness is very much in display in Delhi to pursue those that target the state even beyond our territorial limits. A nationalist regime at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already displayed enough of its strength that unlike the earlier Delhi dispensations no soft-pedaling will be allowed when it comes to national security. It will go a long way in generating hope amongst the people of North-East particularly those who are on the border areas and constantly living at the mercy of the terrorist groups like the NSCN(K). So, it is time to act.
