In order to give a fillip to independent music, the Buransh Retreat with the support of the Himalayan Study Centre will host a concert tour titled Zubaan at Kausani in Bageshwar on May 23.
According to the event organisers, the concert tour aims to take the independent music of the country closer to its people. This concert is open for all and has no tickets. It will be the first in a series of concerts planned in other cities of the State including Almora, Dehradun and Haridwar.
Zubaan is creating a platform that supports the independent music industry in the main lands of the country that lie beyond the metro cities. According to Kavish Seth, who started this programme with his friends, “Since the advent of mass communication, film music became the most prominent form that got consumed, subverting the local independent voices.
With the power of broadcasting one’s music now available to all and the technology to create content getting increasingly accessible, independent music is seeing a resurgence. We wish to create an environment that encourages artists to come up with original music and present it to the audience that is looking for new content,”he said.
Accrding to the organisers new music production, consumption technology and increased mobile phone penetration has created considerable scope for creating an independent music industry that caters to the rural population of the country. It will also help in creating a reliable means of livelihood for the local performing artists, aver the organisers.
