After the announcement of the zila panchayat polls, Haridwar is turning fast into a political hotbed with senior leaders of political parties making rounds of the city on their way to the rural belts to hook the electorate to their sides.
Determined to humble the ruling Congress in the rural polls, BJP, the principal Opposition party in the State, is leaving nothing to chance.
A team of senior State BJP leaders like Prakash Pant, Gyan Singh Negi, Naresh Bansal and district president Suresh Rathore visited Haridwar on Wednesday. They reviewed the performance of the party rank and file in each of 11 Assembly constituencies. From each of these seats, eight to 10 candidates are in the rural poll fray. BJP would announce names of its nominated candidates on Thursday, said the party leader Prakash Pant. December 4 is the last day of filing nominations.
