The people will also have to come forward to help develop the Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha into a viable third alternative to the two national parties Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttarakhand. Addressing the media here in Dehradun on Monday, the URM chief, Dr VK Bahuguna said that work was underway in the party to develop a practical organisational structure with an action plan already being prepared to ensure the proactive involvement especially of the youth and women.

Addressing the media here on Monday, the Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha chief who is also a former director general of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), VK Bahuguna said that the party is working on a long-term plan for achieving the desired level of development in Uttarakhand through political means democratically.  The focus will also be at the village level with efforts to be aimed at establishing a connect with and addressing issues pertaining to all segments of society especially the farmers, teachers, youth and women among other segments. He opined that work needs to be done on a broad scale in order to stem the migration of people from the rural mountainous regions of the state due to factors like lack of employment opportunities. Referring to apparently poor management of environmental and related resources in the state, he recalled recent visits to parts of Dehradun and Tehri districts and interaction with the local villagers in these districts who complain of monkeys having become a threat to agricultural crops. For works including the mitigation of such human-simian conflict, the state authorities could have made better use of resources under the 14th finance commission to achieve better forest management and related works. Other office bearers of the URM were also among those present on the occasion.
