Youth shot at under Rajaji tiger reserve

Haridwar police have registered a case on the complaint lodged by the father of a youth from the city, saying that he had been shot at by some unidentified persons when he went to an area under Rajaji tiger reserve with a friend. Interestingly, the incident happened in the same place from where remains of a leopard were recovered recently. Police said that a probe is on, adding that the possibility of some contract watchers deployed by the forest department being involved in the case is not being ruled out.

It is learnt that resident of Haripur Kalan, Suryakant had gone to the forest area near Raiwala Motichur range of RTR during the weekend where he had been confronted with some youths. Following altercation, a bullet reportedly had pierced into the lower part of Suryakant’s leg.

Police had rushed to the spot after the injured youth informed them over phone. He had later been admitted at Jolly Grant Hospital.

Speaking of the matter, SO Raiwala Mahesh  Joshi said on Monday, “An attempt to murder case has been registered against some unidentified persons on the basis of the complaint lodged by the youth’s father Virendra Singh.

The case is intriguing. The motive is not clear yet as the attackers did not take away anything from Suryakant. We would record his statement after he recovers.”
