To counter ‘ Mai Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign by supporters of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state Youth Congress would start a ‘ Mai Bhi Berojgar’ ( I am also unemployed) campaign . The Youth Congress members would start their campaign from Thursday, the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a public meeting at Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district.
Addressing the media persons at Rajiv Bhawan, the state Congress headquarters, the principal spokesperson of Youth Congress Vikas Negi said that coinciding with Modi’s visit, the Youth Congress activists would hold protest programmes in all the districts of the state and the educated unemployed youths would fry Pakoras as a mark of protest.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had rolled out a promise to provide two crore new jobs every year while campaigning for the 2014 general election. “But his promise has proved to be a farce. Recent data shows that the unemployment is at its peak over the past 45 years. The GST and demonetisation have snatched away 1.10 crore jobs. The ‘Make in India’ and ‘Skill India’ schemes have proved to be an eyewash,’’ he said. Continuing his diatribe on PM Modi, the Youth Congress leader said that during the 2017 Assembly election, Modi had again made a host of flamboyant promises like increasing employment opportunities in the state to prevent migration. But they are elusive,” he said.
“When the government failed to provide jobs to the unemployed BJP leaders made fun of the unemployed by giving statements that ‘frying Pakoras and selling tea are also jobs.’ To register our protest, we would start ‘Mai Bhi Berojgar campaign in all parts of the state,’’ he said.
