A local Youth Congress activist was found dead in a car in which he had reportedly shot himself in the head. Aged 35 years, Kapil Rawat was said to be suffering from depression for some time now. On Sunday morning, he told his father about going on his “final journey” and left home in his car. According to sources, he parked his car near the ficus garden on Ramnagar-Haldwani road where he talked on the phone to his friends. Sitting on the driver’s seat, he then shot himself in the head. Later, a passerby informed the police about a body in a car near the ficus garden.
Reaching the site, the police discovered the body and the gun. Informing the kinfolk, the police called his family members to the site. The police then sent the body for post mortem examination.
Later in the evening, his funeral procession was attended by a considerable number of locals including Congress members.
