Protesting against the alleged derogatory comment of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Youth Congress activists torched the PM’s effigy here on Monday.
The Youth Congress activists assembled at Astley Hall on the day and staged a protest against the alleged comment of Modi. While referring to Sonia Gandhi, he had purportedly said that the money of the widow pension during the UPA regime had gone into the account of ‘Widow of Congress’.
Strongly objecting to the PM’s comment, the State Youth Congress general secretary, Sonu Hassan said that a person occupying the chair of the PM should not have stooped to such a low while targeting the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. He said that the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had sacrificed his life for the country and using such a derogatory language for his widow is deplorable.
The Youth Congress leader further said that in the past too, PM Modi has used similar language against Sonia Gandhi.
The Youth Congress leaders said that on one hand PM Modi and BJP leaders are harping on ‘Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao’ and they are on other hand dishing out deprecating comments against the women. They said that the statement also underlies the real mentality of the BJP for the women. The former national secretary of Youth Congress, Sangram Singh Pundeer said that PM Modi has insulted ‘Veer Naris’ and widows by his statement. He said that the PM should seek apology for his derogatory comment.
The agitated Youth Congress members then consigned to flames an effigy of PM Modi.
