The hospitals which help one to recuperate from diseases also act as one of the biggest source of infection, especially for children. The unhygienic conditions coupled with large inflow of patients in the Government hospitals increase the chances of hospital borne infection among children.
large number of children visits the Doon hospital daily unaware of the chances of infection. Interestingly, many parents take their children unnecessarily along with them to the hospital either to visit some relative who is admitted or to get them treated.
Shalini Rawat, a resident of Raipur road, who was standing in a queue at Doon Women hospital along with her four-year son was unaware of the disease threat she was exposing her son to.
Anita Kumari of Khurbuda who was seen standing outside the registration counter along with her 3 year old daughter said that she knows that it is not proper to carry the kid to the hospital but she had no other option.
The senior Pediatrician of Doon hospital Dr NK Khatri told The Pioneer that children are more susceptible to catch infection in the hospital as they have low disease resistant capacity. He said that people should not take their children unnecessary to the hospital and prevent them from being exposed to the infection.
Dr Khatri said that the children are infected mostly by the droplet infection due to coughing and sneezing. He said that the people should adopt the practice of using handkerchief while coughing and sneezing to prevent infection to others.
Similarly the Children should be advised to keep distance from infected people. He said that the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) of the hospitals should be sterilized from time to time as the new born babies are most susceptible to infections.
