The discovery of a young woman’s body in the Mohabbewala forest area on Monday has alarmed the local residents. Police seized a cycle, a bottle of acid and a container filled with kerosene found near the body.
As per preliminary inquiry, she appears to have been strangled to death. Police said that acid might have been kept to disfigure the face to make identification difficult and kerosene to burn the body for the same purpose. But the plan had not succeeded for some reasons, they said.
Senior police officers, including Dehradun SSP, rushed to the spot after the Gram Pradhan had informed the local police, Patelnagar at around 10.30 am on Monday. The police team thoroughly inspected the area in search of clues. Dog squad and a forensic team were sent too for the purpose. However, police were in the dark over the motive behind the murder and the identification of the murdered woman till the time of the story being filed.
The body had been sent for postmortem, a police officer from Patelnagar police station said, adding that they were trying their best to identify the body at the earliest.
Once the body was identified it would lead to the arrest of those responsible for it, he said
