Writers and thinkers based in Haridwar would deliver lectures at the Art Institute of Chicago on September 11 to mark the anniversary of the historic speech given by the revolutionary monk of India Swami Vivekananda at the 1893 World Parliament of Religions.
The theme they would dwell on is the Global Economic Model as envisaged by the great sage of India of 19th century.
Nearly 150 delegates are expected to come from across the world, including prominent religious leaders of different persuasions and eminent economists, to take part in the five-day conference beginning from 10 September.
The US Ambassador to India would also be present. India would be represented by 15 delegates. The international conference is being organised by ISOl Foundation of Chicago.
It is expected that the spirit of the historic 1893 World Parliament of Religions, which saw the Hindu monk thundering his way into the discourse with his glittering exposition of the comprehensive Vedanta
philosophy of India, would be relived the same day
from the same platform once more.
Before leaving for the conference, Radhika Nagrath, a researcher on the inherent Indianness in the poetry of Swami Vivekananda, said her dream of visiting the sacred place where the saint had shaken the world with his deified oratory is coming true. “I thank God for choosing me to deliver his message from the same podium at the Art Institute,” she said.
This is her third visit to US for invited talk.
Deliberating on the topic of her discussion, Radhika said that the spiritual mentor knew that religion was not the crying need of India. “Strong economic foundation is what is needed to help a religion thrive,” she said.
She further said Modi’s ‘Make in India’ project is in sync with the Swami’s notions of economic prosperity of India.
“The Swami asked the Indians to learn technology from the West and use it to uplift the economy of the country. And this is what is happening now," he said.
