Workshop to revive Aipan art from Dec 17

Published on:

In an effort to revive Aipan art form of Kumaon region to its former glory, Project Aipan in association with The Himalaya Study Centre, Kausani, will be organising a workshop in Kausani on December 17-18, to revive the art form and empower a community of Kumaoni housewives through entrepreneurial action.

Head of The Himalaya Study Centre, Threesh Kapoor,”Culture is the foundation of any civilization. Over the years, the practice of Aipan has declined substantially, which is why the current generation cannot even identify the art form, let alone know its significance. Many people from Kumaon have migrated to cities in search of livelihoods and the dictates of modern life leave little time to appreciate and indulge in making Aipan,”he added.

As part of Project Aipan, Aipan motifs have been adapted on canvases, wall hangings, diyas, bookmarks, greeting cards, diaries, pen stands and other items of decor and stationery. All products are hand painted by the project beneficiaries and the sales proceeds go directly to them.
