Study of Toxicology is of vital importance for human health at a time when research is being conducted across the world to study the effects of   plastic, solid and electronic waste on humans in modern day lifestyle.

These concerns need be addressed in a scientific manner to prevent the adverse effect on human health. Research scientist Jaidev Raju from Canada said this while delivering a talk on next generation in life sciences from the perspective of a toxicologist here on Thursday.

The lecture was organised jointly by the Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST) and National Academy of Sciences, India at the council’s Vigyan Dham campus in Dehradun. Addressing the gathering Raju said, “Contaminated water is used for fruits and vegetables grown nowadays, which results in presence of toxics in the produce. These toxics enter the human body on food consumption, which may lead to cancer, eye-related diseases and various other serious diseases from a young age. We need to raise awareness regarding this issue,” stressed Raju.

He also shared results of the various research works he had undertaken mainly on diabetes related ailments along with cancer. UCOST officials stated that such lectures and workshops will be organised at various places across the State in the future.
