This was stated in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat along with the Urban Development and Housing minister Madan Kaushik to review preparations for the Kumbh Mela to be held in the state during 2021. Directing officials to soon identify works of a permanent nature, he said that only those tasks which can be completed should be started as incomplete works will not be tolerated. He told police officers that considering the crores of people who visit the Kumbh Mela, crowd management and security should be accorded top priority.
The director general of police Anil K Raturi said that more than 20,000 security personnel will be deployed in the Kumbh Mela. He said that for the Kumbh Mela, the police department has estimated Rs 54 crore for permanent constructions, Rs 30 crore for security equipment and other resources and Rs 45 crore running budget. A special plan will be drafted for preventing fire and stampede, he added. It was stated that the CM will inspect the Kumbh Mela area in February. Rawat expressed dissatisfaction at the Public Works Department not yet sending proposal for the declaring a ring road in Haridwar as national highway to the Central Government.
He pulled up the PWD chief engineer asking why the proposal for declaring the ring road a national highway had not been sent to the Centre so far even though the issue was being discussed for about six months now. The CM also appealed the public to give suggestions for a logo based on the theme of
Kumbh Mela. A cash prize of Rs one lakh will be presented to the designer of the logo selected for the Kumbh Mela, he added.
