Work on shortcomings of MGNREGS: Guv

Published on:

The procedural shortcomings should be resolved immediately to ensure payment of wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme without delay. District magistrates should ensure regular inspection of ration shops.

The quality of water being supplied in tankers must be checked, apart from which information like list of authorised centres for Aadhar card and services made available free of cost to the public should also be made available in the districts. Governor Krishan Kant Paul issued these instructions while chairing a video conference to review action taken on complaints received through the Samadhan portal here on Monday.

The governor said that the administration is for the benefit of the people. Complaints received from the general public should be acted upon in a time-bound manner to the satisfaction of the complainant. Taking serious cognisance of the complaint made by Almora resident Munni Devi about non-receipt of MNREGA wages, the governor said that any procedural shortcoming causing such problems cannot be tolerated. Officials informed that due to absence of bank branches in various places, the beneficiaries have their accounts in post office. The administration has sent payment for Munni Devi’s wages but the post office has not been able to pay Munni Devi as it is not core banking solution (CBS) enabled. Stating that there must be other similar cases, the governor said that effort should be made to resolve such cases with the assistance of the chief post master. A list of such cases should also be submitted to the administration. Regarding the complaint lodged by Pauri resident Hira Singh regarding irregularities  being committed by the ration dealer , the district magistrate informed that the license of ration shop in question has been suspended with an inquiry underway in the case.

The governor was also informed about the status of various cases lodged by the public.
