Work on issuing number plates to resume

The pending work of issuing number plates especially for the two wheelers in the State capital would most probably be resumed from Tuesday onwards. It should be mentioned here that no number plates were being issued for two wheeler vehicles for the last 10 days in the State capital.

When asked about this, the State head of link Utsav HHRP Private limited, Arvind Arora, informed that high security resolution plates were already being issued for all kind of light Motor Vehicles (lMV), Heavy Good Vehicles (HGV), four wheelers but not for two wheelers in the state capital due to some technical problem in the server at Delhi office.

He stressed that the state based company is not responsible for the delay in work of issuing number plates. laser codes for these vehicles which are usually being uploaded from Delhi were not being uploaded since December 28 last year due to some technical problem there.

However, this delay in the number plate issuing works led to much inconvenience for the vehicle owners. Numbers of people who were regularly visiting the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for procuring number plates were bound to return without their work

being done.

Still the work of registering new vehicles at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) was consistently being carried for past 10 days. Around 5,484 vehicles were registered at RTO in this duration.

In spite of the technical issue and delay in number plate issuance work around 3,894 two wheeler vehicles were registered by the RTO officials.

However, considering the inconvenience of the visitors, their phone numbers and email address were collected and they were updated about the progress of the work being done, averred Arora.

Senior Administrative Officer at RTO, Jitendra Thakur, informed that RTO is not concerned about issuing of number plates work and it is being carried on by the private agencies from February 2012 onwards.

Meanwhile, Center Supervisor of link Utsav HHRP Private limited, Mohammed Shoib Siddique, said that the issuance of around 2,000 number plates was delayed during this time period and it would be resumed as soon as the technical problem is resolved and the vehicle owners would be provided the Registration Certificates (RC) once the number plates are issued to them.

He also said that involvement of private agencies in issuing of number plate work has also helped in eradicating various irregularities existing at the department level. Earlier no any specific criterion was followed while issuing number plates at RTO level. But the standard criteria are being prescribed for it now.

The standard size of number plates meant for two wheelers like bike is set at 285x45 mm at front of the vehicle while 200x100mm is the standard size for back side of the vehicle. For scooters 200x100mm standard size has been set both for front and back side of the vehicles.
