To prevent the Rispana River from creating havoc during rainy season, work on a 120 metre long flood protection wall on the right bank of the river is in full swing near the Mohini Road bridge area of the city.
The Parliamentary Secretary and Rajpur Road MlA Rajkumar said that a sum of Rs32 lakh is sanctioned for the four metre high flood protection wall and the irrigation department is the executing agency for this project.
He claimed that the work on the wall would be completed before the water level increases in the river. Rajkumar said that the residents of Sanjay Colony and adjoining areas would be benefited by the wall as the river has started cutting through its right bank during the monsoon of last year and the surging waters also threatened the overhead water storage tank located near the river. The work on two more flood protection walls on the right bank of river is complete; these walls are 35 meter long and are constructed at a cost of Rs9 lakh each.
