An important decision has been made by Woodstock School’s Board of Directors at the end of 2016. After careful consideration, the Board has approved Woodstock’s move to the International Baccalaureate (IB) in a phased process over the next four years.
Woodstock’s uniqueness has not been defined by academic curriculum alone. Its location in the Himalayas, its identity as a Christian minority institution, outdoors and enrichment programmes and focus on the holistic development of the individual child are features which will continue to characterise its distinctiveness.
The IB programme is well aligned with the educational philosophy which now clearly defines and inspires the school. The programme emphasises academic excellence in all subject areas alongside global citizenship, community engagement, creativity and innovation. “The IB develops young people who ask challenging questions, who think critically, and who possess the research skills to succeed at university and beyond,” says Dr Jonathan long, principal of the school.
The IB is a strongly research-based and globally recognised programme which draws from the best education systems world-wide. Working with leading universities and research institutions, the IB will guarantee that a Woodstock education continues to be relevant, rigorous and rewarding. In addition to providing well recognised qualifications for those students applying to calibre universities overseas, the IB is validated by the Association of Indian Universities for those students applying to universities and colleges in India.
IB schools are subject to a strict and regular accreditation process monitored by the IB, ensuring that schools provide a high-quality education. Says the principal, “What’s more, it will benefit Woodstock enormously from collaboration with a world-wide community of like-minded international schools.”
Teachers at IB schools take part in highly regarded and frequent professional development opportunities to ensure their familiarity with the very best educational practices and new thinking. This aligns very well with Woodstock’s commitment to recruiting and retaining the best possible teachers.
Alongside its ambitious plans to upgrade all of its campus facilities and to seek accreditation from the Council of International Schools, this move is part of the school’s firm commitment to high achievement, ambition and excellence.
