BJP women wing activists staged a demonstration at lansdowne Chowk on Wednesday, protesting against Monday’s attack on Mayor Vinod Chamoli and some councillors by some locals at Shishambada in Dehradun during the foundation laying of waste treatment plant.

They also burnt the effigy of the State Government in course of the stir, holding the latter responsible for what had happened there on Monday.

Scores of BJP women activists led by its Mahanagar president B Gupta assembled at the party’s Mahanagar office and rallied till lansdowne Chowk while raising slogans against the state government.

Speakers on the occasion said that the violent protest had occurred at Shishambada despite the state government having issued NOC of the project a few years ago.

Gupta said that the State Government could hardly shirk its responsibility for the violent protest. “It was clear that those from Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) and other outsiders indulged in the stone pelting that damaged the cars of the Mayor and other councillors. It was a blatant case of intelligence failure.  Some local Congress leaders were also involved in the violent protest,” she said.

Slamming the CM for steering clear of the important programme despite being invited by the Mayor, she said his absence  was conspicuous.
