Interaction with some sub-inspectors deputed in Dehradun and other parts of the State has revealed that the women sub-inspectors generally do not wish to take the charge as police station in-charge or police post in-charge.
They cite their doubling as homemakers to justify their reluctance to take up the charges. One says that while as sub-inspectors at police post they work for hardly eight hours a day they would have to be on duty throughout the day in case they take up the charge as police post in-charges or police station in-charges. Some of them tend to shy away from the field works, fond as they are of sitting at the district police headquarters, police headquarters and other police offices. A senior police officer said that some of women sub-inspectors do not wish to work on the roads to manage traffic.
