A society without women cannot be imagined as they make up an equal half of society. Society will be strengthened only if the women are empowered, said chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat after inaugurating a seminar on gender violence and women safety.
Rawat said that women need to be strengthened economically and physically as well to achieve women empowerment. He also stressed on the need for developing self discipline to ensure that all view women with respect. For this, it is important for the citizens to be taught the right values in their childhood itself. Any problem can be resolved only through awareness in the society. While various laws have been enacted for addressing varied problems, leading a life with morality and decorum provides permanent solution to any problem.
The CM spoke of the various measures taken by the State Government for women empowerment including the provision of up to Rs five lakh loan at zero per cent interest to women self help groups. In the previous year, women self help groups supplied Prasad worth Rs two crore in Kedarnath alone.
He said that the Central Government too is consistently working in the direction of women empowerment with Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign being accorded top priority among other efforts. MLA Khajan Das also expressed his views on the occasion. State Women Commission chairperson Vijaya Barthwal, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Usha Negi and representatives of various voluntary organisations were also present on the occasion.
