Chandigarh Congress president Pardeep Chhabra on Sunday said the women members of the Congress should contribute actively to highlight the differences in ideologies of the Congress and the BJP by exposing dual standards of the BJP in respect to women empowerment. While addressing the Mahila Congress Cell members in Sector 35 here, he said the conditions for residents of Chandigarh in general and women in particular were not favourable.

No initiative for women security had been taken and further the budget for the city had been decreased, which would hit the pace of development of the city, he said. Neetu Verma, All India Mahila Congress Secretary also addressed the meeting at the Congress Bhawan in Sector 35 here, which was attended by all the block and district presidents and general secretaries.

Attacking the Modi-led NDA Government, former Union Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal said the BJP did nothing for women empowerment, except for taking credit by renaming the initiatives taken by the Congress led UPA Government. Neetu Verma said the BJP leaders like Giriraj had been issuing statements, which were against the dignity of women and the BJP had failed to check such leaders by asking them to desist from issuing such statements.

On the occasion, Chandigarh Mahila Congress president, Meenakshi Choudhary said it was Congress which had taken initiatives for women empowerment like reservation for women in all tiers of Panchayati Raj to encouraged greater participation of women in the public sphere.
