Women courts likely to be set up in every district

In order to reduce the complaints pertaining to the women, the Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission (USWC) is likely to set up women courts in every district. The chairperson USWC Vijaya Barthwal said that dealing with the complaints and making the women aware of their rights is among her priorities.

Talking to The Pioneer, Barthwal said, “Setting up the women courts is meant to help the women especially living in remote areas of the state. This can help them file complaints very easily. We have discussed the matter. However, things might take some more time as works need to be done.  If such courts are set up  we would constitute  a team for  each of such courts.”

She further said, “I also feel that all- women police stations should be set up in every district as it would help  the women to file complaints in a better way.”

Sharing her ideas about making the women aware of their rights,  Barthwal said, “Awareness among the women is very much important, especially regarding their rights. There are cases when girls do not share unpleasant incidents with their parents or teachers because of fear. This results in spike in such crimes.  We would start awareness programmes in schools and colleges to make aware of the importance of reporting crimes whenever they are committed.”
