The possibility of women constables embarking on a protest mode through various medium has left the top State police brass as well as the State Government worried.
Anonymous women constables have written an open letter addressing the Chief Minister aside from Chief Secretary, Additional Secretary Home, DGP and Additional DGP (administration, law and order and intelligence), requesting them to promote senior women constables through ranker’s promotion scheme for 50 per cent of the total 150 posts of sub-inspectors for which the State Government has recently started direct recruitment.
Policewomen demand promotion, may protest meeting with senior police officers. Sources said that the department may consider promoting women constables for 34 out of 150 posts of SIs. However, such a decision if taken is unlikely to thaw the frost as the women constables are demanding the ranker’s promotion scheme for 75 out of 150 SI posts. Earlier, in last year, constables of the State had protested by wearing black ribbons on their arms, demanding correction of the irregularity then prevailing in their salary which was yet to be upgraded in tune with the recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission. Finally, Chief Minister had announced moves to fulfill their demands. Now, things are not clear whether CM would go for such an announcement to douse the simmering resentment among the women constables .
