Women constables to go through written tests

Published on:

After the women constables purportedly wrote an open letter addressed to the Chief Minister aside from Chief Secretary and DGP, requesting them to promote senior women constables through ranker’s promotion scheme sans examination for half of the 150 sub-inspectors’ posts, the State police have decided to promote women constables through written tests for eight of 150 posts in which recruitment is under process.

DGP BS Sidhu said that only eight posts are lying vacant for women constables or head constables presently. “They  could be promoted through written tests. Recently, department had completed ranker’s examination for the promotion of constables and head constables for 304 posts of sub-inspectors.  Seven women were selected in the same. The women candidates will also have to go through written test, physical test, medical test, confidential report and verification of their identification and residences before they are selected as sub- inspectors,” he said.

It should be mentioned here that in the letter written to the CM purported by some women constables, it was mentioned that most of the women constables are graduates or post- graduates by way of qualification.  Women constables should be promoted on the basis of seniority,

they demanded.
