A recently married couple from Delhi visiting Nainital had a harrowing experience when the wife died after falling about 250 feet down the mountainside while clicking a selfie. She reportedly panicked after seeing a snake and slipped while trying to get away.
Delhi resident Saddam and his wife Tamanna had been married in November 2017. They had arrived in Nainital on January 13 and were staying at a hotel on Mall Road. On Monday morning after breakfast, the couple hired a car to see the sights.
After visiting various locations, they reached a site near Bhumiyadhar on the Nainital-Bhawali road in the afternoon. The couple was reportedly attracted by the sights in the sunny weather and sat down on a roadside parapet. After sitting and admiring the sights for some time, they started clicking photographs. It is being stated that Tamanna was taking a selfie while standing near the edge of the road when she spotted a snake near the parapet.
She panicked and tried to rush towards the road when she lost her footing. She fell down the mountainside from the Nainital-Bhawali motor road to the Karnprayag-Jyolikot motor road about 250 feet below. Watching his wife fall down, Saddam screamed for help.
The driver of the hired car transported Tamanna in a seriously injured condition to the BD Pandey government hospital. According to the doctors, she was brought to the hospital at about 3:40 PM. Bleeding from her nose and ears, she was reportedly breathing her last at that time. Despite attempts by the doctors, her life could not be saved.
On learning about the incident, the police circle officer Vijay Thapa and others reached the hospital. The CO later also inspected the site where the mishap had taken place. The family members of the deceased had been informed that post mortem of the body would be conducted after their arrival here, he said.
Meanwhile, Saddam was inconsolable after the death of his wife.
He was seen weeping loudly while bemoaning the tragic twist of fate which ended the couple’s married life a few months after it started.
