The doctors of the Max Super specialty hospital used a novel technique to treat blocked dialysis fistula of a woman. The hospital authorities claim that such operation has been performed for the first time in Dehradun. The team of doctors including Dr Shireesh Mittal, Dr Paramveer Sabharwal, and Dr Puneet Arora performed the first of its kind operation in the State.

The hospital spokesperson said that a woman, who visited the hospital for regular dialysis, complained of fever, stomach pain, and burning sensation while passing urine. On investigation, the doctors found that her fistula was 60 per cent blocked and instead of going in for the conventional procedure, doctors decided Angioplasty of Dialysis Fistula.

The Nephrologist of hospital Dr Puneet Arora said that till date, dialysis patients from Dehradun had to travel to metro cities for getting such Angioplasty done. “In 30-40 per cent dialysis patients the fistula gets blocked. Such patients can either get the blockage opened surgically or a new fistula needs to be created. A new technique is now available to open such clogged fistula called Angioplasty of Dialysis Fistula which removes the obstruction in the blood vessels”, he elaborated.

The Interventional Radiologist of the Hospital Dr Paramveer Sabharwal informed that Angioplasty of the Dialysis Fistula is a non-surgical procedure and takes only 30 minutes to 1 hour after which the patient can be discharged. The General Manager Operations of the hospital Sandeep Tanwar hoped that maximum patients will benefit from this advanced medical technology and will not have to travel to metro cities for availing such specialized healthcare facility.
