A woman was allegedly disrobed, tortured and confined by some residents of Harrawala over a land dispute. The incident came to the fore on Wednesday after the woman staged protest at SSP office, demanding action against the accused Bablu Rawat, Mahendra Batola and his son. She alleged police were not taking action against the accused. In the complaint, the woman said Harrawala police post constable Anuj Choudhary had called her to a place to have the dispute settled a few days ago. When she turned up the three accused abused, beat and tortured her for over two hours in front of the cop, she alleged. However, Harrawala police station in-charge Hoshiyar Singh denied that any such incident had taken place. “Disputes are continuing over half a bigha land,” he said.
The woman’s father was murdered in 2005 allegedly by one of the accused Bablu Rawat. It is understood that Bablu had allegedly encroached half a bigha land owned by the deceased. Bablu who was lodged in a city-based jail in connection with the murder case - trial going on in the Uttarakhand High Court — was released on bail, the complainant said. Taking cognisance of the complaint, a case under Sections 323, 504, 506, 342, 354 of IPC was registered against the accused in Doiwala police station, said Doiwala Circle Officer Arun Kumar Pandey.
