With Rs39cr, Nanital yet to hit Rs75-crore stamp duty target

Published on:

The district administration Nainital is far from achieving the target of Rs75 crore by way of stamp duty from registry in the current financial year, with just Rs39 crore having been collected so far. Moreover, the pace of recovery of the stamp duty during the corresponding period last financial year — December 2013-2014 was much better than the pace of the same during the current fiscal. Notably, the Nainital district administration had recovered Rs41 crore  by way of stamp duty till December 2013, said the officials concerned of the Nainital district administration.

The figure for the current fiscal is much less, it is learnt. Introduction of new circle rates in November 2014 is being accounted for the decrease in the recovery of revenue on count of stamp duty.Revision of circle rates in November 2014 led to decrease in total number of land registries which resulted in less collection of revenue in terms of stamp duty so far this financial year, added the officials concerned of the Nainital district administration.

Similarly, poor collection of revenue from the mining sector in Nainital district this financial year has also come as a cause of concern. While the State Government received Rs55 crore as revenue from the mining sector during the financial year 2013-2014, only Rs28.98 crore has been received from the same sector so far this financial year 2014-2015 in Naintal district, officials said.

Delay in opening of the Gola riverbed in Haldwani for collection of the riverbed materials is being attributed to the poor collection of revenue from the mining sector. More so, the process of collection of riverbed materials from the Dabaka and Koshi rivers in the district has not yet started this financial year, adding to the poor earning of revenue from the mining sector in Nainital district.

The current financial year coming to its fag end with the volume of revenue collection from some of the key areas like mining and registry dipping, the district administration Nainital has directed the officials concerned to ensure cent percent recovery of revenue within the stipulated time.
