The Winter Games Association of Uttarakhand, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam and the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board will jointly organise a winter ski carnival and open championship at Auli in Chamoli district from February 22 to 25. Informing about this decision, Tourism secretary Dr Umakant Panwar said that the organisation of the Auli Winter Ski Carnival and Open Championship will boost tourism in the State and also help disseminate information about various tourist destination in Uttarakhand across the nation.
Visitors can reach Joshimath by road and from there can use Asia’s major ropeway to reach Auli conveniently. Winter sports enthusiasts and local businessmen are feeling buoyed due to the good snowfall this year compared to past years, which would also make it more convenient to host the skiing competition, he said. Skiing competitions are held only in three locations across India- at Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir and at Auli in Uttarakhand. Such events are held every year at Auli in order to encourage adventure sports in the State.
