Dehradun SSP Sweety Aggarwal said while interacting with mediapersons on Tuesday that they would take the problem of traffic congestion recurring across the city head-on.
Dwelling on the causes of the snarls that make the traffic on the city roads crawl, she said that the departments concerned delaying to remove electricity poles now standing at wrong places on the roads and also to fill up the holes dug on the roads are spawning the problem. “Besides, we are aware that the roads are being haphazardly dug without taking police into confidence, something that is compounding things on the roads. We on our part would approach and seek help from other departments like PWD, civic body, the construction agencies and power department to lessen the people’s ordeal on the roads,” she said.
Aggarwal said that apart from directing traffic police to take measures to improve traffic system in the city, she had asked the police officers to take steps at their level for the same.
“The police officers should seek help from other departments on the matter. Moreover, police station officers have been directed to identify the places where traffic is being jammed daily and find out the reasons behind it and act accordingly in their jurisdictional areas. The police station officers have also been directed to deploy their forces to resolve traffic, especially during the peak hours,” she said.
