labourers play a vital role in society so the State’s effort should be on facilitating the improvement of their financial position. The State labour and MSME Minister Harish Chandra Durgapal said this while chairing a meet of workers’ welfare board in Dehradun on Wednesday.
Speaking at the meeting, the minister said that camps should be held to maximise the registration of construction workers. Tool kits, cycles, sewing machines, financial assistance for education and marriage of children and other forms of assistance should be provided to such registered construction workers. He said, “There should be widespread publicity before organisation of welfare camps for labourers. The workers should be informed about various welfare schemes and encouraged to register through such camps. Such a camp should be organised in Roorkee on August 23 and in Dehradun on August 27,” he directed.
The minister said that so far 6740 construction workers had benefitted with about Rs three crore being spent in assistance to them. Durgapal said that considering the difficult geographical conditions of the State, one mobile registration each for Garhwal and Kumaon should be arranged to facilitate registration of construction workers at the work site. These mobile registration vans will operation on a rotational basis. Regarding proposals for construction of shelters for construction workers, it was said that in the first stage such shelters will be constructed in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Haldwani. The action for facilitation of land for construction of such shelters will be taken by the district magistrate.
