There would be no rain in Dehradun district till December 31, say the weathermen, a forecast that indicates that a white Christmas and new year eve would elude the queen of hills Mussoorie this time too despite the expected throng of tourists there in anticipation of a snowy celebration of both the occasions.
The Uttarakhand meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said on Thursday that the climate would remain dry till the last day of the year while the temperature would be nearly normal.
The forecast might dampen the people from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and some other states who are expected to ascend to the famed hill stations in Uttarakhand like Mussoorie, Nainital, Dhanolti and Auli to celebrate Christmas and the new year eve. However, it might rain and snow in some isolated places in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts for three days since December 24.
Bikram Singh further said that the climate would be mainly dry across the state on Friday and Saturday.
The sky would remain clear to party cloudy sky in Dehradun though on Friday, he said, adding that the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle at around 23 degree Celsius and 8 degree Celsius respectively on Friday. While the maximum temperature settled at 24.8 degree Celsius, three degree above the normal, in Dehradun on Thursday the minimum was 11.1 degree Celsius, four notches above the normal.
In Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded are 26.2 degree Celsius, four degree above the normal, and 8.0 degree Celsius, two notches above the normal, respectively.
In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded are 18.8 degree Celsius, five degree above the normal, and 7.7 degree Celsius, four degree above the normal. In Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded are 19.8 degree Celsius and 10.6 degree Celsius on Thursday, Singh added.
