When college principal becomes 'fashion guru'!

Published on:

With the banning of glamorous clothes by students in college, principal of the MBPG College Haldwani BC Malkani nowadays seemed to have also turned out to be a fashion ‘guru’ giving a lesson or two to his students on what to wear or what not during college hours.

Students come to colleges to learn. So they are supposed to join the classes in normal or routine dresses, not in fashionable clothes, says Principal Malkani.

“We have issued notice restricting use of rather ‘fashionable’ clothes in college. The admission process is still on. Once these academic formalities like admissions are over, we would strictly go against those who are found violating this order,” asserted Malkani.

The MBPG College is the largest post-graduate college in Kumaon region with more than 10,000 students. Students may not be so worried about their studies, but craze for wearing glamorous or fashionable always remain high among the students.

However, college administration here is of the view that the intelligent students become casualty of this fashion parade. Such indiscipline only disturbs academic atmosphere of the college, maintain the officials of the MBPG College, Haldwani.

The interesting fact is that craze to go to college in fashionable dresses remains high among the new comers who come to seek admission in first year degree courses because till passing the 12th standard they have to follow a formal dress code in their schools.

With the MBPG College, Haldwani making its mind to strictly implement its decision in regard to banning ‘fashionable’ clothes, the freshers are a bit disappointed.

If the college administration strictly restricts use of wearing clothes of our choice, then we have no option but to follow that order, said  Arun Kumar who applied for admission in B A first year.  However, it is to be seen to what extent  the students  follow such directions, he added.
