In a joint operation of Bharat Swabhiman and Patanjali Yog Samiti, free yoga camps are being organised in the villages of the Haridwar district these days. The workers of Patanjali Yog Peeth are visiting the rural areas of Haridwar and hold camps highlighting the benefits of yoga in countering obesity, hypertension, depression and many other life style diseases.
Speaking to The Pioneer, State head of Bharat Swabhiman Rajendra Tyagi said, “A week -long yoga camp programme would start from May 25. It would cover villages of Niranjanpur, Dhanori, Matlabpur, Rohalki, Bhikkampur and Pherupur. The camp would continue till May 30. Bhajan Sandhya (devotional song) led by Vaidik Vidushi Anjali Arya would also be part of this camp.”
Through these camps Patanjali Yog Peeth aims to awaken the national consciousness amongst the villagers and make them aware towards good health, said the organisers. A free diagnosis camp would also be organised from 9 am to 2 pm at these places where free medicines for common ailments would be distributed, informed the Bharat Swabhiman spokesperson.
Besides, three- coloured pamphlets are being distributed that convey the message of the camp and other information. The pamphlet propagates the benefits of the yoga camp, claiming that half kg (500 gms) weight is reduced in a day in one who practises yoga. This aside, the underweight individuals gain weight by it too. Yoga also balances the hormonal secretions in the body, thereby regulating hormonal disorders. The pamphlet also claims that Yoga helps in dissolving cysts of uterus and tumours and gives permanent cure in many incurable diseases.
Notably, Swami Ramdev’s Patanjali research foundation has devised a yoga package comprising 20 postures. Under the national anti-obesity campaign run by this foundation, a pilot project was experimented on 500 obese people. The result of the study conducted on the 500 patients indicates “Regular practice of Yoga reduces body weight from 2.8 to 10 kgs. It imparts positive results for the obesity- linked diseases”. The package is claimed to be devoid of any side- effect.
