Weather takes turn with upper reaches snowfall

Published on:

With the weather taking a turn on Wednesday, considerable snowfall was experienced in the higher reaches of the State. In the Chamoli district, snowfall was reported from Badrinath, lokpal-Hemkund and the valley of flowers among other high altitude areas. Following the change in weather, the peaks of the Himalayan mountain ranges have been covered in fresh snow which coupled with rainfall in the lower reaches has brought much respite to the people from the rising level of mercury as was being experienced in recent days. The snow which had fallen earlier had melted away in places like Badrinath. However, following the sudden change in weather and accompanied snowfall, Badrinath was covered by about three inches of snow on Wednesday. The snowfall and rain the region has made the locals to bring out the woolen clothing they had earlier packed due to rising temperatures. The consistent rainfall in the region is also causing a considerable drop in temperature with observers opining that if the present state continues then there might be chance of snowfall in the comparatively lower altitude areas too.
