We would tackle with political pressure: New DGP

Soon after assuming charge as the 10th Director General of Police of Uttarakhand on Monday, IPS Anil Kumar Raturi said that he would recommend transfers in the force to the State Administration while considering efficiency and requirement without buckling under political pressure.

“We would deal appropriately with the political pressure if it comes as our focus is on making the force a professional one,” he said while talking to mediapersons during his maiden Press conference after assuming charge as the state police chief.

Dwelling on his other priorities, he said that reining in crimes and facilitating a corruption- free police force aside from bettering coordination between the police and the general public would figure prominently in his list of priorities.

“We should always keep in our mind while discharging our duties that the force is meant to live up to the  people’s expectations and to help them when they are distressed. There is no reason why the force that contains a healthy mixture of  youth, experience and discipline would not rise up to the challenge lying ahead of it to distinguish itself as a professional and people- friendly force,” he said, adding that they would go the whole hog to work  in sync with the rules that guide its functioning .

He further said that sincere efforts would be made to further strengthen the law and order situation in the state while laying thrust on boosting the morale of the force. “Our policing system would be transparent with no room left for anyone to tweak the rules for personal interests. We are here to   provide security to the people while guarding over   their properties. We would deal with the criminals with a heavy hand to instill enough fear in them to deter them  even from thinking of crimes,” he said, adding that a sound law and order situation would help bring more and more tourists/pilgrims and the industrialists.  “Uttarakhand has a population of about one crore, but around five crore people arrive here every year as pilgrims and tourists.  Besides, the arrival of more and more industrialists in the state to invest would boost the state’s economy immensely,” he said.

While sounding concerned over the recent spurt seen in the cyber crimes, the new DGP said that technology- based training would be imparted to the police personnel to help them deal with such cases appropriately.

He also laid thrust on improving the traffic system and handling the disaster situations effectively.
