UKD chief Trivendra Singh Panwar said that they protested in the city on Monday in support of protesting police constables demanding allowances to be paid for the period between 2006 and 2011. He alleged that previous BJP-led Government and current Congress-led State Government are two sides of the same coin when it comes to addressing the genuine demands of the lower rung policemen. Their stir would continue till the demand is met, he added.

UKD activists took out a rally heading towards Parade Ground.  But they were stopped at Darshan lal Chowk. The protesters were arrested and were later released. later, they staged a sit-in at the feet of Indramani Badoni’s statue near Clock Tower. When they again tried to march Parade Ground police intervened.  Following heated arguments, police arrested the protesters to be released later.

Intriguingly, when this correspondent asked CO (Kotwali) Manoj Kumar Kaptyal about the UKD stir in the city he said that the stir was about another matter having nothing to do with the police agitation. Police sources said the officers were under siege on Monday following the top cops’ stern instruction to stop any sort of stir  around the cause of police’s pay anomalies anywhere in the city during the day.
