We are for making farmers self-reliant: CM

With the Opposition pressuring the State Government to spell out its stance on the demand of loan waiver for the farmers, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat made it clear that his Government was not thinking on that line. “We are for making the farmers self-reliant,” he said in Haridwar on Wednesday. He further said that his Government would soon announce a mining policy that would effectively stop illegal quarrying activities. “We are for freeing the mining works from the clutches of the mafias,” he said.

While presiding over a function  hosted by Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal in Shanti Kunj in Haridwar, CM stressed on Indianness  being  the bedrock of the education system.

“The Indian youths should march ahead while basing their lives on the values laid down by the seers of this ancient land. Vedas and Upanishads are comprehensive scriptures  which have left nothing that is important to life from green energy to the art of living,” he said. He also mentioned how he had declined to wear the ceremonial convocation cloak while attending a convocation of a university in Dehradun a few days ago, citing it as a relic of the colonial era.

Queried by the media, CM Rawat said that they would soon roll out a mining policy which would ensure an increase in the revenue for the state and at the same time, would be transparent. “The mining mafias would have no place once the policy is executed,” he added.

While advocating for the cause of Sanskrit, CM said that it is a matter of regret that while the classical language is being taught in Poland and Spain it  is being looked down upon in the land which begot it.

While talking on the emotive farmers’ loan waiver  issue, he said that the thrust would be laid more on enabling the farmers to earn more than on waiving loans. “This is what Narendra Modi envisions. Their income would be doubled by 2022 by making them more self-reliant. It is not feasible to waive off loans at one go,” he said.
