The heat and shrinking of water sources is also hitting the wildlife hard. The ranger of Dauli range, MC Joshi said that presently there is adequate water at Bhutanala, Katnanala and lower area of the Gaula River. Elephants, leopards, bear, deer and other wildlife are frequenting these spots for water, he added. The Tanda ranger Ganesh Chandra Tripathi said that in a 7,500 hectare forest area there is water only in the Dhimri and Bhatbhoj nullah while the Gangapur Patia and Nagla water sources have dried out. The Forest Department has made about a dozen water holes but the water in these is also shrinking. Gaula ranger Chandrashekhar Pandey said that the wild animals from this range travel to Kishanpur and Dauli areas for water. The rising heat is definitely affecting the wildlife, he added.
